Toddler Program (Orange Room)

About Orange Room

Ages 12 Months - 24 Months

Orange Room is primarily for toddlers 12 months to 24 months. The room focuses on care giving and respect for these young students while also introducing concepts from our preschool curriculum. We use baby signs to facilitate communication between adults and children while using a language-rich environment to increase their vocabulary. This includes group story time as well as opportunities for 1-on-1 reading and open book exploration for the children. The teachers sing songs to indicate transition times, familiarize the children with proper hand washing, and sing popular children’s songs and nursery rhymes!

We continue to use a philosophy by Magda Gerber, an early childhood educator, known for teaching parents and caregivers how to understand babies and interact with them respectfully from birth! Our goal is to teach basic trust and independence, while involving the child in all care activities and providing sensitive observation all of the time.

We use a 1:4 teacher-child ratio and incorporate primary care groups to encourage bonding and nurturing of each infant! With primary care groups, each teacher has a set group of up to four children that they primarily care for. Your primary care teacher will be your main point of contact regarding your child’s development and daily needs. They will learn your child’s likes, dislikes, and personality through and through.

Orange Room follows a classroom schedule with more structured activities and circle time while also allowing plenty of free exploration both inside and out. Orange Room also follows a curriculum similar to our preschool with weekly themes and holiday celebrations.

Children need to be 24 months (2 years old) to move over to the Red Room. At 24 months, the child should be developmentally ready to transition to the Red Room. It can either be a quick transition or a gradual transition which will be assessed based on each child’s temperament and needs.
